ODF - Central Oregon District

ODF Region 2 is committed to protecting the forests and communities of Central Oregon through collaborative stewardship, sustainable practices, and an emphasis on fire prevention and education.

Public Contact Information

Nestled in the heart of Central Oregon, ODF Region 2 spans over 5 million acres of diverse natural landscapes. From the high desert around Bend and Redmond to the mountain forests surrounding Sisters and Prineville, this area contains a rich variety of vegetation and wildlife. The Deschutes National Forest, home to black bears, elk, and over 200 bird species, makes up a significant portion of ODF Region 2.

With its dry climate and abundance of timber resources, Central Oregon faces a high risk of wildfires during the summer months. ODF Region 2 works diligently to prevent and suppress fires in this area through public education, responsible forest management, and rapid response services. District foresters and stewardship foresters provide support to both small woodland owners and industrial timber companies in Region 2 to help manage forests sustainably.

ODF’s Central Oregon District is headquartered in Prineville and oversees fire protection for over 3 million acres of private, county, state, and Bureau of Land Management lands in Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson, and Wheeler counties. The 37 full-time employees and 80 seasonal personnel strive to safeguard lives, resources, and forests in Central Oregon through a community-focused approach. Partnerships with Keep Oregon Green, Project Wildfire, the Boy Scouts, local schools, and other organizations help spread fire prevention awareness.

With stunning natural landscapes and critical timber resources to manage, ODF is committed to protecting the forests and communities of Central Oregon through collaborative stewardship, sustainable practices, and an emphasis on fire prevention education. Our dedicated team looks forward to continuing a tradition of service in this beautiful part of the state.

Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF)

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) protects 16 million acres of Oregon's public and private forestlands from wildfire, manages 800,000+ acres of Oregon's state forests, enforces the Oregon Forest Practices Act and other rules and laws to conserve Oregon's forests, assists private forestland owners, and works with urban communities to help sustain Oregon's most "lived-in" forests - trees in urban areas, city parks, neighborhoods, and open spaces. ODF serves Oregonians by helping to keep forests healthy, working, and sustainable.
