ODF Region 4 encompasses over 5.4 million acres across Klamath and Lake counties. This diverse area features lush pine forests, expansive rangelands, scenic waterways, and abundant wildlife. The Fremont-Winema National Forest covers much of the landscape, providing habitat for deer, elk, bears, and over 200 bird species.
With its arid climate, frequent lightning strikes, and heavy fuel loads, this region faces an extreme risk of catastrophic wildfires. ODF’s Klamath-Lake District works diligently to prevent and suppress fires through public outreach, responsible forest management, and prompt initial attack. District employees provide support to small woodland owners, industrial timber companies, and other agencies to implement science-based practices that make forests more resilient.
The Klamath-Lake District office oversees fire protection for 2.3 million acres of private, county, state, and BLM lands in the region. The District’s 50 full-time personnel and 170 seasonal firefighters are deeply committed to safeguarding communities, resources, and ecosystems in this uniquely fire-prone environment. Partnerships with organizations like the Oregon Forest Resources Institute and Firewise Communities promote fire prevention awareness and preparedness among residents.
With critical timber resources and growing communities to protect, the ODF Klamath-Lake District strives to steward these forests sustainably for future generations. Our exceptional team looks forward to continuing a longstanding tradition of service, safety, and stewardship throughout this distinctive part of Oregon.
