About

ODF Region 1, Forest Grove

The Forest Grove District of the Oregon Department of Forestry stewards over 150,000 acres of diverse state forestlands in northwest Oregon. Encompassing portions of five counties, the district's terrain features renowned rivers, forested mountains, and the rugged Northern Coast Range.

Nestled within Oregon's majestic Northern Coast Range, the Forest Grove District manages over 150,000 acres of diverse state forestlands in the northwest region of the state. Our district boundaries encompass portions of Washington, Columbia, Clatsop, Yamhill, and Tillamook counties, with several major towns such as Vernonia, Banks, Forest Grove, and Carlton lying within our area.

The landscape under our stewardship contains renowned river systems including the salmon-bearing Nehalem, Wilson, Trask, and Nestucca. We oversee forested mountain ranges like the Tualatin Mountains and Chehalem Mountains, which provide stunning vistas as well as prime wildlife habitat. Much of our terrain falls within the rain-drenched Northern Oregon Coast Range, where abundant precipitation gives rise to towering fir, cedar, and spruce.

Our district is bordered by the sprawling Tillamook and Astoria State Forest districts, and we work closely with our neighbor districts to sustainably manage Oregon's invaluable public forestlands. We take pride in our important role managing diverse ecosystems and balancing timber production with world-class outdoor recreation opportunities.

Whether you're an avid hiker, angler, hunter, or just love exploring Oregon's natural beauty, the Forest Grove District offers endless adventures. Come experience the majestic forests, winding rivers, rolling mountains, and pristine wilderness that make our corner of the state so special. We look forward to serving as stewards of these cherished public lands for generations to come.

Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF)

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) protects 16 million acres of Oregon's public and private forestlands from wildfire, manages 800,000+ acres of Oregon's state forests, enforces the Oregon Forest Practices Act and other rules and laws to conserve Oregon's forests, assists private forestland owners, and works with urban communities to help sustain Oregon's most "lived-in" forests - trees in urban areas, city parks, neighborhoods, and open spaces. ODF serves Oregonians by helping to keep forests healthy, working, and sustainable.
