About

Jacksonville Fire Department

The mission of Jacksonville Fire Department is to protect life and property through public education, fire prevention, and emergency response services.

Established in 1883 as Jacksonville Engine Company no.1, the Jacksonville Fire Department has served the citizens of Jacksonville Oregon for more than 140 years.

Originally an all-volunteer organization, firefighters of Engine Company No.1, responded to the call of the fire bell from a small fire-hall adjacent to the Old Jacksonville City Hall. The original fire-hall still exists today and houses a small museum.

In the 1950's the fire-hall was moved into a concrete block structure at the present day 3rd street site.  This location had previously been the site of Chinese building, during Jacksonville's Gold Rush days.  The structure housed the department and City Administrative offices in various iterations for more than 40 years.

The 2000's saw increased emergency serviced need. Jacksonville Engine Company No. was re-organized into the municipal Jacksonville Fire Department, a combination professional/volunteer department with full-time fire fighters, interns and volunteers.   The Jacksonville Fire Department carries on the proud legacy of serving the public and protecting the lives and properties of Jacksonville and its neighboring communities.

2022 saw the commissioning of a completely renovated, multi story, Jacksonville Fire Department Station 19.  The updated and rebuilt structure maintains the history and charm of the old fire hall.  It is modern, safe, earthquake-resistant building which will house the Department and City Emergency Operations Center for decades into the future.
