About

Dayton Fire District

THE DAYTON FIRE DISTRICT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1898 AND HAS BEEN FAITHFULLY SERVING THE COMMUNITY EVER SINCE. DFD IS STAFFED BY 40 VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS WHO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES 24/7.

The Dayton Fire District (DFD) provides fire protection and emergency services to more than 6500 people within an 80 square mile service area. The full range of services include Fire Suppression, Fire Protection, and Emergency Services. There are 40 active members with dedicated volunteers making up the mainstay of the force. All volunteers are carefully and regularly trained in the latest techniques to keep our community safe. Last year we responded to approximately 758 emergency calls. Fire Chief Bret Putman is a 40-year veteran of the force. Assistant Fire Chief John Tish is a 25-year veteran with fire and rescue experience. The main Fire Station is located on Ferry Street in the center of town. There are two sub-stations, servicing Grand Island and Hopewell. The Dayton Fire fleet consists of more than a dozen vehicles including four Type 1 Engines, two 1600-gallon Water Tenders, one 3,000-gallon Water Tender, one Emergency Medical Rescue Vehicle, three Brush Trucks, one air rig, and two Command Vehicles.
