Oregon Department of Forestry - Tillamook District

Public Contact Information

Nestled along Oregon's lush North Coast, the Oregon Department of Forestry's Tillamook District oversees one of the most historically significant and ecologically rich forest landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. The district manages approximately 364,000 acres of the Tillamook State Forest, a breathtaking expanse of second-growth Douglas-fir, western hemlock, and Sitka spruce that rises dramatically from the coastal foothills into the Coast Range.

The district's story is one of remarkable resilience. The Tillamook Burn — a series of devastating wildfires between 1933 and 1951 — scorched nearly 355,000 acres, leaving a scarred landscape that captured the attention of an entire state. In one of Oregon's greatest conservation efforts, citizens, schoolchildren, and volunteers replanted millions of seedlings, restoring the forest over decades to its current thriving condition.

Today, the Tillamook District balances multiple missions: sustainable timber harvesting, watershed protection, wildlife habitat conservation, and robust public recreation. The forest supports vital salmon-bearing streams, including the Wilson, Trask, and Tillamook Rivers, and welcomes hikers, hunters, and off-road enthusiasts year-round.

The district exemplifies Oregon's commitment to working forests — productive, protected, and preserved for generations to come.
